fuIf losing weight is a challenge, then buy organic fruits and vegetables which can help aid weight loss efforts. Toxins in the bloodstream are a contributing factor to your ability to lose weight. It is a known fact that toxins are entered into our bodies through the air, skin, and the foods that we consume. The presence of pesticides can be found in all food sources (prepared meals, wines, fresh produce, etc.)
When finances may allow, purchasing organic foods is a better alternative. Understandably, that is no simple task for some. Here are some tips on when to buy organic.
First of all, let’s mention the fruits and veggies that have been found to have the most pesticide residue. Studies conducted by Environmental Working Group have determined strawberries, apples, cherries, nectarines, grapes, peaches, cherries, pears, tomatoes, celery, potatoes, spinach, and sweet bell peppers to be the DIRTY 12. These 12 should be purchased organic.
If it’s not feasible to buy organic, then wash the fruits/veggies by scrubbing under tap water. Some pesticide residue will have absorbed into the flesh of the fruit/veggie. Alternatively, the skin can be peeled from apples, potatoes, nectarines, and peaches. Another method to reduce pesticide residue is to soak the fruit/veggie in a mixture of baking soda and water for approximately 12-15 minutes. This soaking process greatly reduces some of the pesticide exposure.
The body can perform and function better when eating healthier foods. A conscious effort needs to be made to build a grocery list that promotes weight loss. Here are a few fruits/veggies that have fewer pesticide residue. This list can be found here. It is safer to buy these fruits/veggies in their non-organic versions. A thorough wash is recommended because some pesticide residue may be present!
